Volunteer Helen Mizzeni said a group of residents came together last year and discussed the history of the town.

She said Smeaton had many historical landmarks in the town and it was important to celebrate the special milestone.

“Towns are not like they used to be,” Ms Mizzeni said. “Not everybody knows each other and sometimes new residents don’t really feel like part of the town so I think it is important to celebrate a town’s history.”

She said if no one was willing to tell the story of Smeaton it would get lost.

“What we hope to do is to open up the town and let people see Smeaton,” she said.

“People will have a lot of stories to tell so I am excited to hear some of the things people have to say.”

Ms Mizzeni encouraged residents in the town and surrounding districts to attend the meeting on Monday at the Smeaton Primary School at 8pm.
