New owners have taken over the Daylesford Hotel.
For the past 10 years Darryl and Margaret Evans have run the hotel, however on Friday they handed the reins over.
The hotel, which was originally built in the early gold rush days of the 1850s, is one of Daylesford’s most iconic buildings.
The current building was built 100 years ago and had retained many of its 1900s features.
Mr Evans said after 10 years he and is family were ready to move on from the hotel but would miss the many locals who would regularly go to the hotel for a drink.
“Me and Margaret and have built a magnificent hotel,” he said.
“We have had a great bar trade and have become good friends with many people.”
Mr Evans said he and his wife formed the Daylesford Hotel Social Club and would most miss the frienships formed.
“We have about 35 members in the social club and each year we would go on trips,” he said.
“One thing I will miss is the camaraderie with the locals.”
The hotel, which is located in the heart of Daylesford, still serves as one of the town’s most favoured watering holes.
Mr Evans said throughout the past decade there had been ups and downs.
“In the past 10 years we have had a lot of opposition come into town,” he said.
“A lot of restaurants and cafes in the area got liquor licences but like all businesses you have to work through it.”
Mr Evans said he and his family would have an extended break before deciding what to do next.
“My youngest started high school this year, my son is at high school and my eldest is at university so we will have an extended break before we maybe start another business,” he said.
