All eyes on profit

As the Reverend Neville Newett so rightly stated (Adv, Jan 7), supermarket executives couldn’t care less about our traditions or religious beliefs.

Their main aim is to maximise profits at all cost.

I went to a supermarket to buy some confectionery before Christmas and I found that 75 per cent of them were made in China.

Naturally, Australian manufacturers cannot compete to supply the enormous profit margins that Chinese suppliers can.

Maximising profits and ignoring our traditions or beliefs at the expense of Australian businesses and workers is deemed to be normal business practice for these market juggernauts.

It is time the federal government started protecting Australian producers and, in turn, our workers from these greed machines.
